Top 5 JD Edwards Announcements from Collaborate 2017

For those of you who were able to attend Collaborate 2017 in Las Vegas earlier this month, you witnessed firsthand that JD Edwards is continuing to thrive. From educational sessions and networking opportunities, to our very own Super Session, the JD Edwards community gathered once again to discover and share JDE best practices. If you weren’t able to attend, here’s a recap of the Top 5 Oracle JD Edwards announcements:

New Support Timelines

Oracle announced new support timelines for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2. Premier Support is effective through October 2025 and Extended Support through October 2028. This change is expected to encourage those customers to upgrade who were previously delaying due to the short Premier Support window. Along with this announcement, Oracle focused on the concept of Continuous Delivery, their method of delivering enhancements and easier-to-consume models as feature packs and updated on the EnterpriseOne 9.2 code line.

Continuous Delivery (CD) is a software engineering approach in which teams produce software in short cycles, ensuring that the software can be reliably released at any time. It aims at building, testing, and releasing software faster and more frequently. The approach helps reduce the cost, time, and risk of delivering changes by allowing for more incremental updates to applications in production. It is expected to allow JDE customers to better align IT and the line of business organizations they support by scheduling the adoption of updates based on how they best serve the business rather than on an end-of-support date. Oracle will evaluate the support dates annually and determine when it makes sense to extend the Premier and Extended Support time horizons.

JD Edwards Search 2.0

Users should expect an improved experience for finding information using search terms in JD Edwards. Oracle announced plans for searching across any combination of master and transaction data, configurable by your Citizen Developers. Look for this feature coming soon.

Drill Down Capabilities from the Analytical UX One Components

JD Edwards UX One combines the latest advancements of the JD Edwards user experience centering around the Alert, Analyze, Act design principles. Plans are in place for users to soon be able to investigate more specific information with analytic component navigation. This will provide users with easy access to investigate business conditions in detail while drilling to all data or selecting from legends with context, giving a clear path to take action.

12 New Role-Based Solutions

Alert, Analyze, Act allows all types of users to work the way they want and be more efficient.  JDE UX One includes role-based solutions, providing systematic implementation of the Alert-Analyze-Act model over a broad cross-section of core areas of application functionality to make users more efficient. As of January 2017, there were 38 Roles available. During Collaborate, the product team announced 12 more roles to be launched in the near future:

UX One Light Touch

Presentations from the Oracle Product team focused on plans for UX One Light Touch and how it will accelerate business processes. Specifically, UX One Light Touch will transform tedious tasks such as phone calls to automated notification and actions via smart phone messaging. In areas where manual steps and scheduled jobs have been utilized, simplification and automation will be implemented with comprehensive dashboards and one view reporting. And rather than use paper and clipboard methods, UX One Light Touch will rely on mobile devices and barcode scanning. Some examples of use cases for UX One Light Touch include: Production Execution, Asset Acquisition to Operation, Employee Hire and Shipping.
